Enroll/Cost

Domestic Students taking five (5) or more in-load, non-restricted, differential Portland State University (PSU) credit hours or more during Fall, Winter, and Spring/Summer combined terms are automatically enrolled in the PSU-sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan unless they choose to submit an approved online insurance waiver of comparable coverage. If the student drops below five (5) credits on or before the Waiver Deadline, they will not be eligible for this student insurance plan.

International students taking one (1) or more credits are required by Portland State University to have the PSU Student Health Insurance Plan even if on vacation term. Some international students qualify to waive out, i.e. sponsored by government, provided U.S. health insurance from a U.S. employer, or if a J-1 student purchases comparable health insurance prior to arriving in the U.S. All other students are required to have the Student Health Insurance Plan.

International students arriving a few weeks early or staying a few weeks after a term, and those on Optional Practical Training (OPT), please contact the PSU Student Health Insurance Help Team at [email protected].

No dependent coverage is offered to domestic students under this plan. Eligible International Insured Students may purchase Dependent coverage at the time of student's enrollment in the plan, or within 31 days of one of the following qualified events: marriage, addition of domestic partner, birth, or adoption. Eligible dependents are the spouse or legally registered and valid domestic partner which resides with the Insured Student, and the student's, the spouse's, or the domestic partner's natural child, stepchild, or legally adopted child under 26 years of age. No coverage is offered to Newborns if the dependent is not enrolled in this plan.
