Opt-Out/Waiver

If you do not want the Student Health Insurance Plan, you must decline or opt-out of coverage by submitting a waiver.

Only one waiver per academic year is required. PSU academic year restarts every Fall term.

You may only opt-out of coverage during the following Waiver Periods:

In order to complete the online insurance waiver, you must first be registered for the required amount of credits.

DOMESTIC STUDENTS WAIVER

To qualify for a waiver, your health insurance plan must meet the requirements as listed below.

Your private health insurance plan must:

  1. Have a yearly, individual deductible of $2,500 or less.
  2. Cover at least 70% of Inpatient Hospitalization.
  3. Be active by the first day of the term you are waiving.

As a reminder, all OHP, VA and Tricare plans have a $0 Individual Deductible and 100% Coinsurance. Students enrolled in OHP or VA coverage are not required to upload a benefit summary when submitting a waiver.

Please note: Pooled gifting plans are not accepted as comparable coverage because they are not guaranteed health insurance plans, examples are:

  • Liberty Health Share
  • Christian Healthcare Ministries
  • Samaritan Ministries
  • Medi-Share

If your private health insurance plan meets the criteria you are eligible to apply for a waiver of the PSU Student Health Insurance Plan. Have the following information ready before you begin your waiver application.

  • Your medical ID card
  • Your PSU ID number
  • Your private health insurance plan benefits summary
