Only one waiver per academic year is required. PSU academic year restarts every Fall term in September.

You may only opt-out of coverage during the following Waiver Periods:

Winter Term - 11/04/2024 - 01/19/2025

DOMESTIC STUDENTS WAIVER INFORMATION

Before completing your online waiver, please follow these steps:

  1. You first must be registered for 5 or more credits and wait 24 hours for the waiver system to update.
  2. Your own health insurance plan* must meet the requirements:
    1. Have a $2500 or less individual deductible
    2. Cover at least 70% of inpatient hospitalization
    3. Be active on or before the first day of the term you are waiving
    4. If you have OHP or VA coverage, you have a $0 deductible and 100% coverage for hospital. It is not required to upload a benefit summary; just your insurance or military card.
  3. Have your medical ID card ready. If you do not have an insurance ID card please be sure you type in the full medical ID# correctly or your waiver audit will be delayed and possibly denied.
  4. Be sure your waiver application gets submitted successfully. You will see an automatic error message if a field is missing.  Incomplete waivers will not count.  Successful waivers will get instant confirmation of receipt plus an email.
  5. Address all insurance, waiver and waiver appeal questions to: [email protected]

*Pooled gifting plans are not accepted as guaranteed health insurance plans, i.e. Liberty Health Share, Medi-Share, etc.

All other J1 or F1 students may not waive out of the mandatory PSU Student Health Insurance Plan.
